Connecting Locally from GVHS to GVE

Ms. Megan Lowe and Ms. Deanne Stephan connected their classrooms by using Ustream. Ms. Stephan's high school, Nonwestern cultures, performed a debate on the problems in African cultures. Ms. Lowe's 4th graders looked on and listened from their classroom using Ustream. It was an exciting experience for all the students. Take a look at the experience below.

Garnet Valley Middle School teacher, Mr. David Burt, takes an opportunity to Skype with students in the Dominican Republic. A GVSD, family, the Delaney's, along with a few other students from GVMS, traveled to the Dominican Republic on a missionary trip. While visiting the Village of Ascension, populated by Haitian immigrants and poor Dominicans, GVMS, 7th grade students, had the opportunity to speak with students of the village.  They learned about the village population, education, and everyday life.  The students of GVMS learned that the missionary work consists of teaching English, Sporting activities such as lacrosse and tennis, sewing, and many other activities of daily living. Personalizing the Learning of Bio Students through Genius Hour

Genius Hour - Mrs. Frost Honors Biology 9th Grade This year, our Garnet Valley High School teachers in the Science Department launched Genius Hour in their biology classrooms. This initiative entailed giving every student the opportunity to research a particular topic of their own interest, in any biology-related field of science. Once their topic was selected, students developed essential questions to help drive their research. The students used their research to develop a more formal driving question to steer the experiment process. Read below to learn more about our students' experiments and their scientific findings. Breaking Out to Break In Building class community, learning about your students, and creating a fun environment to learn are a few of the goals we have as teachers when we begin the school year. So what better way than to participate in a Breakout Edu? This September, teachers in our elementary and middle school buildings have been taking this opportunity to create their classroom culture. By using Breakout Edu games, teachers have seen an increase in communication and collaboration with their students. The skills they practiced through the games transfer to other disciplines and give all students a chance to feel successful.
