Project Based Learning - Identifying A Problem, Getting to Work to Solve It in 1st Grade

The Caretta 2 Global Project  Global Project - Caretta 2 Turtle Project Our first graders in Mrs. Silicato's class at Bethel Springs are taking part in a very unique project. Mrs. Silicato, along with teachers from all around the globe have worked to plan the Caretta 2 Turtle project. The originator of the project, a teacher in Greece, wanted to raise a greater awareness of endangered sea turtles specifically the Caretta, also known as the Loggerhead Sea Turtle. With this brilliant idea, teachers worked together and collaborated using Google Hangout to plan activities to communicate with one another's classes via wikispaces, to raise awareness of the endangered sea turtles. Mrs. Silicato's class created a "sealing" on their classroom ceiling to set the mood for their research and learning. They kicked off their turtle study reading a book and creating a Thinglink project for the facts they gathered while reading. The class also adopted their very own sea

Connecting Locally from GVHS to GVE

Ms. Megan Lowe and Ms. Deanne Stephan connected their classrooms by using Ustream. Ms. Stephan's high school, Nonwestern cultures, performed a debate on the problems in African cultures. Ms. Lowe's 4th graders looked on and listened from their classroom using Ustream. It was an exciting experience for all the students. Using Technology to Teach Text Structures

Four Graders at GVE have been learning about text structures in their Reading class. Mrs. Grillo, a 4th grade teacher at GVE, chose to have students create  tutorials to help her students learn the key words, phrases and information about each structure.  Students chose to use Green Screen and iMovie to create these incredible, informational videos. Check out the amazing videos below. Students certainly got a lot out of this project.

Invitation to Psychology Class Creates Digital Portfolios using Google Sites

About the Project  Ms. Deanna Stephan, English and Social Studies teacher at Garnet Valley High school certianly knows how to engage her students. This semester, she has her students creating digital portfolios using Google sites. Ms. Stephan's purpose of this project is to fully engage her students in their learning of themselves and an introduction to Psychology.
